1. Purpose:
The Sim Command Mentoring Program is designed and implemented to assist new command teams as well as struggling command teams whom Fleet and Trek Ops commanders feel need extra guidance. This is to attempt to provide a resource to these sim commands that is able to provide guidance and answer questions with it seeming like an order from the Fleet or Trek Operations commanders or may be requested by the sim command team themselves. This is not to replace UCIP Academy Command Courses, but to augment those courses by giving a resource that may be called to solely assist not evaluate.
2. Implementation:
A mentor may be given to a sim in 3 ways:
• Assigned by Trek Operations Command with approval of Fleet Commanders
• Assigned by a Fleet Commander with Trek Operations Command being informed
• Official request from a Sim Command for a Mentor through their Fleet Commander
• Mentors will be considered non-voting Trek Operations Division staff and be a department akin to Agencies
After the request or assignment the mentor will be assigned to that sim for a period of 1 month.
3. Sim Command Team Responsibilities:
Weather assigned or requested to/by a sim command team the sim command team will have the following responsibilities.
• Make sure the Mentor is given access to all sim lists, including command lists
• Make sure the Mentor is included on all sim related communications, including logs of live chats related to the sim
• Regular communication with the mentor and continued regular communication with Fleet Command
• Answering or acknowledging of mentor communications in no more than 48 hours
• Having a minimum of 1 bi-weekly discussion between the full command team and the mentor
• RESPECT THE MENTOR! These mentors are volunteering their time to you in an attempt to assist you in bettering your sim, give them the respect they deserve
3.1 If Requested
I f a sim command team requests a mentor they will still have the above responsibilities. However, they will also be given the option of asking the mentor to leave after a three week period. This must be done through the Fleet Commander and be CC’d to the mentor with a reason for the requested early end and must be a 5 sentence explanation as to why. This is not to punish the commands, it is to make sure we have an explanation that is complete and the goal the command team had by requesting the mentor is met. I must again stress, BE RESPECTFUL. A mentor’s job is to help strengthen you and your sim, to do this they may point out things you may not like.
4. Mentors Responsibilities
Like the sim command teams a mentor will have their own responsibilities:
• Monitor all sim lists, spot checking command team logs nd/or spot check IRC sims
• Regular communication with the sim command team providing direction and goals to meet
• Answer questions within 48 hours
• Communicate regularly with the Fleet Command about a command teams progress
• Hold at least 1 bi-weekly meeting with the full sim command team to go over any questions or to further explain what the mentor expects
• If a mentor was requested, meet with the command team to find out what they are expecting and wanting
• If assigned by a Fleet Command or Trek Operations command, meet with the assigning authority to find out what is needed and expected
5. Mentor Authority
Mentors will be purely OOC and are not meant to replace Fleet Commanders. As such, they will not have the authority to remove or reprimand a command team for any reason. However, they do report to Fleet Commanders and Trek Operations Commanders and any negative reports will be thoroughly investigated and appropriate action taken.
6. Abuse
Abuse and disrespect of the mentor WILL NOT be tolerated and a zero tolerance policy will be held for this. The mentor will be required to report such incidents to Trek Operations Command and Fleet Commands immediately. If the investigation yields abuse by any part of the sim command team the offending sim command team member will receive a reprimand will be placed on record that could affect promotions, awards, immediate removal as a command team member or even eligibility to command a trek sim.
Likewise, abuse or disrespect of a command team WILL NOT be tolerated and a zero tolerance policy will be held and this will also be fully investigated. Command teams will be required to report such incidents to Trek Operations Command and Fleet Commands immediately. If the investigation yields abuse by the mentor the mentor will be immediately terminated and a reprimand will be placed on record that could affect promotions, awards or even eligibility to command a trek sim. Mentors are expected to be professional at all times and expected to give accurate, unbiased reports.
If either party, a sim command team member or mentor, is found to have filed a false report of abuse during the investigation, removal from the mentor program or removal from the command team and a demotion of two grades without eligibility for accruing promotion time for two months will be enforced. For example, a Lieutenant demoted to Ensign for filing a false claim of abuse would have to wait 2 months before starting to have weeks active count. LOA’s during that 2 month period will result in a freeze of punishment and the 2 month period will resume upon return from LOA.
A mentor from another Division will have all information about alleged abuse forwarded to their Division Commander and the Division Commander will be involved in any investigation and apply any punishment they see appropriate within their Division.
7. Mentor Recruitment
There will be no application process for the mentor program. Mentors will be asked by Trek Operations Command to participate based on the recommendations of the Fleet Commanders or the appropriate Division Commander then Fleet Commanders given a 48 hour period to comment on the proposed mentor.
